Twitter user Momomo_us says he got hold of Intel documents discussing the atx 3.0 specification. In it, the infamous 12+4-pin power plug is discussed, which is reportedly aimed at video cards with power consumption up to 600 watts.
Thus, the maximum power of the 12VHPWR connector would vary based on the Sense0 and Sense1 signals. Depending on the combination, power of 100 to 375 watts is delivered during system startup, which can increase to 150 or 600 watts for heavy workloads, respectively. In addition, it is indicated that the connector is not physically compatible with existing 6- or 8-pin connectors, although this is not to say that the latter cannot still be supported by means of an adapter.
The connector has four adjustable current limits.
Rumors are circulating that Nvidia wants to use this new pcie 5.0 connector for its next-generation video cards (Ada Lovelace), which would also get immense power consumption. Whether this will be the case only for the self-developed Founders Editions or also all custom models is not clear.
